Resolution proclaiming the month of April 2016 as Lake County Fair Housing Month.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States passed the Civil Rights Act of 1968, of which Title VIII declared that the law of the land would now guarantee the right of equal housing opportunity; and
WHEREAS, the Congress subsequently passed the Fair Housing Amendments of 1988, which further extended the rights guaranteed under Title VIII; and
WHEREAS, fair housing groups, such as Prairie State Legal Services, have been formed to investigate allegations of illegal housing discrimination; and
WHEREAS, Lake County has provided Community Development Block Grant funds for the activities of Prairie State Legal Services in Lake County; and
WHEREAS, equal housing opportunities should be available for all citizens and should be achieved throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, Lake County submitted its Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice as required by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) in November 2014; and
WHEREAS, national fair housing and civil rights organizations have designated the month of April as Fair Housing Month.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the month of April 2016 be designated as Lake County Fair Housing Month.
