Title
Donations for Women’s Residential Services Recreational Equipment-Schanding
Body
We are pleased to inform the board that two groups have designated the children’s playground area and other recreational equipment for donated funds totaling $8100. Benefit Party Planners held a summer party with $5000 proceeds designated for WRS recreational equipment. An additional donation of $3100 came from the Boy Scouts earmarked specifically for swing set and playground equipment for WRS children.
As this note is written, the children’s residential program at WRS has ended. Bills have been passed by the IL Legislature to restore funds for services cut over the past couple of months. Whether we have full-time residential programming for children in the future or not, we intend to have active family involvement with our women clients at WRS, particularly on weekends. To this end, the playground equipment would be utilized during these visits.
Funds must be spent by the end of the year, and thus we bring these items to you for approval at this point so that we can make the expenditures in a timely manner. We will monitor the state’s progress toward funding restoration for the children’s residential program as well as the county’s desire to utilize the space occupied by WRS. We intend to make a prudent decision in using these donated funds wisely.
Suggested Motion
To accept the donated funds totaling $8100 from Benefit Party Planners and the Boy Scouts and to seek an emergency appropriation for the FY2008 budget to allow for the use of these funds for recreational equipment for Women’s Residential Services.
