SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, September 15 to October 15 is recognized as National Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month, which is a time to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America; and
WHEREAS, the observation began in 1968 as National Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon B. Johnson, and was enacted into federal law on August 17, 1988, calling upon the country to observe this time with ceremonies, activities, and programs; and
WHEREAS, National Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month is a time to honor the invaluable ways Hispanic and Latinx people contribute to common goals, celebrate their diverse cultures, and to work towards a stronger, more inclusive, and more prosperous society for all; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latinx people have enhanced and shaped our national character with centuries old traditions that reflect the multi-ethnic and multicultural customs of their communities, while adding their own distinct and dynamic perspectives to the story of our county; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latinx Americans represent a significant and fast-growing demographic of Lake County, and we honor the invaluable ways they contribute to Lake County; and
WHEREAS, Lake County honors the invaluable ways Hispanic and Latinx people contribute to common goals, celebrate their diverse cultures, and to work towards a stronger, more inclusive, and more prosperous society for all.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, the Lake County Board recognizes September 15, 2022 to October 15, 2022 as National Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month and encourages residents to celebrate the contributions of Hispanic and Latinx Americans to the County, state, and nation.
