SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, United Way of Lake County has been dedicated to serving children and families in our communities for more than 100 years; and
WHEREAS, 211 Lake County is a critical community service that is available to all residents across the county, and was launched by United Way of Lake County, in partnership with Lake County government, on September 24, 2019; and
WHEREAS, 211 is a free, confidential, easy-to-remember, one-stop helpline that connects people in need to a wide range of essential health and human services, and reduces non-emergency calls to 911; and
WHEREAS, 211 connects Lake County residents by phone, text, and online to assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year, regardless of the language they speak or where they live in the county; and
WHEREAS, 211 expert navigators are trained specialists who will listen, identify underlying problems, and guide people to available resources; and
WHEREAS, since its launch, 211 has made more than 448,000 connections to assistance for residents across every zip code in Lake County; and
WHEREAS, in the past year alone, 211 team members answered 9,299 calls and texts from residents, addressing 13,905 needs requested and 15,041 referrals, offering compassion while helping with housing and shelter, utilities, employment and income support, food, healthcare, government and legal support, mental health, and addiction; and
WHEREAS, 211 provides vital information and referrals every day to individuals and families in our community to improve and save lives; and
WHEREAS, 211 is now available to 99% of America's population, with Lake County leading the way and serving as a model for other Illinois communities, helping to ensure that every Illinois resident has access to quality information, resources, and assistance for addressing health and human service needs; and
