Resolution authorizing the Vice Chairman of the County Board to act in the capacity of interim Chairman.
Staff Summary
• Due to the Lake County Board Chairman’s taking of an indefinite leave of absence, there exists a need for the Vice Chairman to take on the responsibilities previously delegated to the Chairman until such time as the County Board may vote pursuant to County Board Rules to elect its next Chairman.
• The Chairman’s responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the Chairman presides at all meetings of the board, is authorized to serve as the Liquor Control Commissioner, and is authorized to execute correspondence and documents on behalf of the County.
• The County requires an individual to act in the capacity of the Chairman and continue to carry out these responsibilities and duties.
• This resolution, which authorizes the Vice Chairman to temporarily act as interim Chairman and assume any and all duties previously authorized to the Chairman and ratify any previous actions taken, will remain in effect until either (a) upon the return of the current Chairman, or (b) the choosing of a new Chairman by County Board Members at the County Board’s first meeting in the month following the month in which the County Board Members are elected (December 2018), whichever occurs first.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, due to the Lake County Board Chairman’s taking of an indefinite leave of absence, there exists a need for the Vice Chairman to act as an interim Chairman; and
WHEREAS, the Chairman of the County Board’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, presiding over meetings of the board, serving as the Liquor Control Commissioner and executing documents as authorized on behalf of the County; and;
WHEREAS, the County requires an interim Chairman to carry out the responsibilities and duties of the Chairman referenced above until such time as a Chairman may be duly elected by the members of the County Board pursuant to County Board Rules;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the Vice Chairman be authorized to act in the capacity as the interim Chairman of the Lake County Board.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that any previous actions taken by the Vice Chairman acting in good faith and in the capacity of the interim Chairman prior to the passage of this resolution be and are hereby ratified and confirmed; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution shall remain in effect until either (a) the return of the current Chairman, or (b) the choosing of a new Chairman by County Board Members at the County Board’s first meeting in the month following the month in which the County Board Members are elected, whichever occurs first.
