Staff Summary

•                     The Public Works Department annually evaluates the condition of the water mains and develops a schedule to replace those that are older and/or deteriorating.

•                     The Chevy Chase Road project focuses on replacement of water main along Chevy Chase Road between Lakeview Avenue and Hawley Street in Countryside Lake Subdivision.

•                     An invitation to bid was extended to 20 vendors and responses were received from five contractors, ranging from $422,806 and $579,487.

•                     Pirtano Construction Company, Inc. submitted the lowest responsive and responsible bid in the amount of $422,806. 

•                     This resolution authorizes the execution of a contract with Pirtano Construction Company, Inc. of Addison, Illinois, in the amount of $422,806.

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, the County of Lake owns and operates water supply systems that serve various communities throughout the County; and

WHEREAS, older portions of water mains on Chevy Chase Road require replacement due to severe deterioration; and

WHEREAS, in accordance with the Rules of this County Board, bids were called for by publication for the Chevy Chase Water Main Replacement Project; and

WHEREAS, subsequent to said publication, invitations to bid were extended to twenty (20) contractors; and

WHEREAS, five (5) sealed bids were received and publicly opened in the office of the Public Works Department on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at 2:00 p.m.; and

WHEREAS, Pirtano Construction Co., Inc., Addison, Illinois, is the lowest responsive, responsible bidder in the amount of $422,806.00; four other bids were received ranging from $484,013 to $579,487; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the Purchasing Agent is hereby authorized and directed to execute a contract with Pirtano Construction Co., Inc., Addison, IL, in the amount of $422,806.00 for the Chevy Chase Water Main Replacement Project and charging the costs thereof to account number 610-4816198-48310.
