Special Recognition proclaiming April 3, 2023, through April 9, 2023 as National Public Health Week.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, public health is essential to every part of life; and
WHEREAS, National Public Health Week is a time to recognize the contributions of public health safety to everyone across the United States; and
WHEREAS, the dedication and fearlessness of the United States health care workforce was evident during the entire COVID-19 pandemic. Their sacrifice and courage on the front lines was pivotal in supporting our country during one of our most difficult times; and
WHEREAS, the necessary physical distancing to limit the spread of coronavirus has resulted in limiting communal gatherings-leading to social isolation, increased rates of depression, impaired immunity, and premature mortality; and
WHEREAS, communities marginalized due to their race, income, sexual orientation, and gender identity have suffered from even worse health outcomes than other communities during the pandemic; and
WHEREAS, public health is not determined solely from bodily illnesses, but is also impacted by the safety of neighborhoods, the quality of schools, food insecurity or scarcity of nutritious foods, and limited access to care, medication, or postponing care; and
WHEREAS, this year’s National Public Health Week theme, “Centering and Celebrating Cultures in Health”, is geared to address and prevent underlying causes of poor health and disease risk affecting certain communities more than others; and
WHEREAS, we celebrate the work done in the health care field to not only support and improve the health of individuals through medical care but also their advocacy for the overall improvement of the health of our communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, by this County Board of Lake County, recognizes the week of April 3, 2023, through April 9, 2023, to be National Public Health Week in Lake County, in honor of the women and men whose courage and dedication keep our communities and residents safe.
