•                     Wetland bank credits are necessary to mitigate for unavoidable impacts to existing wetlands by highway improvement projects.

•                     It is desirable to acquire five (5) additional acres of wetland bank credits to meet expected wetland mitigation needs on upcoming highway improvement projects.

•                     The five (5) acres of credits in the Des Plaines River Basin are available from Wetlands Research, Inc

•                     An appropriation of $375,000 of County Bridge Tax Funds and authority to enter into a contract for purchase is necessary to proceed with this acquisition.

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, it would be beneficial to the safety and welfare of the motoring public if future planned improvements to designated routes on the county highway system could be constructed; and

WHEREAS, the construction of improvements to designated routes on the county highway system sometimes result in minor impacts to adjacent wetlands; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to mitigate for impacts to wetlands caused by the construction of improvements to designated routes on the county highway system; and

WHEREAS, it is desirable to acquire five (5) additional acres of wetland bank credits to meet expected wetland mitigation needs on future highway improvement projects; and

WHEREAS, the desired five (5) acres of wetland bank credits in the Des Plaines River Basin are available from Wetlands Research, Inc in the Neal Marsh at a unit per acre cost of $71,000; and

WHEREAS, an appropriation of funds and authority to enter into a contract for purchase is necessary in order to proceed with this acquisition.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that there is hereby appropriated $375,000 of County Bridge Tax funds for the acquisition of five (5) acres of wetland mitigation credits from Wetlands Research, Inc in the Neal Marsh at a unit per acre cost of $71,000; and authorizing the County Engineer to enter into a contract for the acquisition of those credits and designated as Section 01-00000-00-ES.
