Special recognition of October 28 as National First Responders Day.

Body

SPECIAL RECOGNITION

WHEREAS, October 28 is National First Responders Day, which serves as an opportunity to honor the approximately 4.6 million firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), paramedics, public safety telecommunicators, and other professionals who answer the call when people need help most across the United States; and

WHEREAS, first responders provide essential services around the clock, running toward emergencies when others are moving away, responding to fires, medical emergencies, traffic crashes, crimes, natural disasters, and other situations that threaten the safety and well-being of our communities; and

WHEREAS, public safety telecommunicators serve as a critical first link between people in need and emergency responders, answering 9-1-1 calls, gathering vital information, and coordinating responses that save lives; and

WHEREAS, emergency medical services personnel provide lifesaving care in the field, while firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs, paramedics, and other first responders regularly work in stressful, hazardous, and unpredictable environments; and

WHEREAS, first responders throughout Lake County dedicate countless hours to training, education, and service, often working long hours, missing holidays, and special occasions with their families, and placing the needs of others before their own to protect lives, preserve property, and keep our communities safe; and

WHEREAS, the families of first responders also make sacrifices to support their loved ones as they serve our communities and accept the demands and uncertainty that come with this important work; and

WHEREAS, we honor the first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty and remember the lasting impact of their service and sacrifice.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that October 28th is National First Responders Day; and

BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that this County Board honors the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of first responders throughout Lake County and encourages residents to express their gratitude to the men and women who answer the call, serve their neighbors, and help keep our communities safe.
