Resolution authorizing the acceptance of a Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance Program Grant Agreement in an amount up to $65,252.59. 

 

Staff Summary

                     Lake County was impacted by storms and floods between in 2008 and the Governor requested and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued a major disaster declaration for Lake and other Counties for these storms and flooding

                     Lake County EMA has estimated eligible costs from various departments and divisions of Lake County Government, and applied for and been preliminarily approved by FEMA for reimbursement of a portion of our total documented cost of $65,252.59.  The exact amount of the reimbursement is not yet finalized.

                     This funding reimburses the County for a percentage of the eligible costs for emergency protective measures undertaken during the period of the disaster, including: overtime labor, including benefit costs; hourly equipment usage; consumable materials and supplies used; contracted work costs; and repair of damage to improved property

                     The maximum funding available to Lake County through this grant is $65,252.59, which may be reduced by up to 25% which is the county’s share of the cost under the FEMA program.

 

Body

                     WHEREAS Lake County and surrounding areas of northeastern Illinois were impacted by severe storms and flooding from June 1st through July 22nd, 2008, and

                     WHEREAS these storms and flooding caused an extraordinary response by Lake County departments and divisions to coordinate protective actions, information, and resources to protect the public safety, and

                     WHEREAS the Governor of Illinois requested that Lake and other counties in Illinois be provided federal assistance in responding to this storm and flood event through the Federal Emergency Management Agency Major Disaster program, and

                     WHEREAS the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on July 16, 2008, added Lake County to the major disaster declaration for storms and flooding in June and July across Illinois, thereby providing an opportunity for federal cost-sharing in extraordinary expenses for various emergency protective and damage repair actions undertaken by local units of government and non-profit organizations, and

                     WHEREAS, Lake County Emergency Management Agency on behalf of Lake County and its various departments and divisions has compiled a report of eligible expenses,  applied for, and been awarded assistance in an amount up to $65,252.59 in federal Public Assistance Program Grant funding,

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that Lake County does hereby accept and authorize execution of the Public Assistance Program Grant Agreement with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
