Staff Summary
• The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) has applied for, and was awarded, an IDOT STEP grant in the amount of $197,275.48. The grant period is from October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020.
• The main objective of the grant is to conduct specific traffic enforcement campaigns that will maximize road safety and provide financial assistance for traffic enforcement.
• For this grant, the LCSO will complete six mandatory enforcement campaigns and three optional enforcement campaigns.
• Traffic enforcement campaigns include the following offense violation types: seatbelt, speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, said traffic campaigns held in Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 led to a total of 2,059 citations being issued:152 were distracted driving violations, 678 were seat belt violations, 745 for speeding and 29 were for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) arrests; and,
WHEREAS, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office believes that continuing to conduct these traffic campaigns in FY2020 will continue to keep the roadways safe; and,
WHEREAS, said grants will fund the overtime and indirect costs associated with conducting the Campaign.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the Lake County Sheriff’s Office accept an IDOT STEP Grant and the Emergency Appropriation of the Grant Amount of $197,275.48.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the grant revenue in the amount of $197,275.48 from the IDOT be deposited into account number 101-3001110-45020.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Sheriff’s Office shall be the grant manager for the STEP, and accurate records of all necessary grant compliance requirements shall be kept by the Sheriff’s Office.
