RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the 2023 Strategic Plan directs staff to implement the Lake County Regional Tree Initiative in Fiscal Year 2024 to lead in the effort to prevent further increases in global temperature, mitigate climate change effects, and protect and enhance our natural environment; and
WHEREAS, the Lake County Board awarded a contract to Davey Resource Group on October 8, 2024, to prepare an adaptive Urban and Community Forestry Strategic Plan in alignment with the Chicago Region Trees Initiative Master Plan 2050; and
WHEREAS, Davey Resource Group, as a part of the strategic planning effort, held stakeholder and public engagement opportunities, interviewed numerous stakeholders, developed a current state assessment and strategic framework of solutions, and completed a draft plan; and
WHEREAS, the Urban and Community Forestry Strategic Plan sets forth a vision to support a thriving, connected tree canopy that brings lasting value and resilience to all in Lake County; and
WHEREAS, the Urban and Community Forestry Strategic Plan set forth three goals to 1) plant and care for trees to grow a healthier and accessible urban forest; 2) collaborate to protect the urban forest; 3) support and inspire communities to value trees; and
WHEREAS, the Urban and Community Forestry Strategic Plan establishes five strategic priorities that includes necessary policy recommendations and budgetary needs for the County Board regarding urban forestry.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the Lake County Urban and Community Strategic Plan is hereby adopted.
