Resolution recognizing the contributions of Bonnie Thomson Carter for her years of service as a Lake County Board Member.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter was elected to the Lake County Board and the Lake County Forest Preserve District Board in 1996; and
WHEREAS, during her 20 years of service, Bonnie Thomson Carter served as a member of several County Board Committees, including the Financial and Administrative Committee, the Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, the Taxation, Election, and Records Committee, the Ethics Committee, the Law and Judicial Committee (former Chair), the Planning, Building, and Zoning Committee (former Chair), and the Public Works and Transportation Committee (former and current Chair); and
WHEREAS, her leadership on these committees helped fulfill the mission and realize the goals of the Lake County Board; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter also served on several committees for the Lake County Forest Preserve District Board, including the Land Preservation and Acquisition Committee, the Rules Committee, the Preservation Foundation, the Planning and Restoration Committee (current Chair), and as former President of the Forest Preserve District Board; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter has been a champion for the preservation and protection of natural resources throughout the county, as evidenced by her 16 years on the Stormwater Management Commission and her membership in the Governor’s Water Resource Advisory Committee, the Northwest Water Planning Alliance, the Northwest Region Sanitary District Advisory Committee, the Illinois Association of Conservation and Forest Preserve Districts, and the Illinois Nature Conservancy; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter has played a vital role in expanding access to clean water for tens of thousands of Lake County residents by chairing the Regional Water Supply Planning Group, which created Illinois’ first 50-year water supply plan for 11 northeastern counties; advocating for the cleanup of hundreds of contaminated wells in Wauconda Township; and tirelessly working to advance the expansion of the Lake Michigan Water Project; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter led the charge to expand the presence of automated external defibrillators throughout Lake County facilities; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter understood the needs of her constituents and promptly responded to their concerns; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter is respected by her fellow County Board members due to her diplomacy and consideration of all viewpoints; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter has demonstrated commitment to her community beyond her service on the Lake County Board, including her participation as Chair of the Lake County Housing Authority from 1986 to 1996, the Gavin School Board, the Fox Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Fox Lake-Round Lake Rotary; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter was the sole proprietor of Thomson Carter and Associates Insurance Agency for 29 years; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter is a lifelong resident of Ingleside; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter has been married for 33 years to Tom Carter, is a mother to four, and is a grandmother to seven; and
WHEREAS, Bonnie Thomson Carter’s presence and leadership will be missed by the Lake County Board.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this County Board of Lake County, Illinois offers its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Bonnie Thomson Carter for her 30-plus years of dedicated public service to her community and to the citizens of Lake County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this County Board of Lake County, Illinois wishes Bonnie Thomson Carter all the best as she enters this new chapter in her life.
