Staff Summary

                     North Shore Bike Path Bridge Abutments Repair: Contract Award.

                     The North Shore Bike Path will be improved by repairing six bridge abutments over the Skokie River, the Canadian National Railroad, and the Metra Railroad.

                     This improvement will require relocation of overhead wires at the Metra bridge.

                     Metra will perform the work to relocate the overhead wires at an estimated cost of $40,000.

                     A total of seven bids were received, ranging from $618,683.50 to $993,298, and the lowest responsible bidder is Alliance Contractors, Inc., Woodstock, Illinois, in the amount of $618,683.50.

R E S O L U T I O N

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to authority granted by this Lake County Board, the County Engineer heretofore called for sealed bids, by publication, for the repair of six bridge abutments on the North Shore Bike Path over the Skokie River, the Canadian National Railroad and the Metra Railroad, and designated as Section 16-00999-25-BR and

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to said publication calling for said bid, sealed bids were received and opened on October 18, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lake County Division of Transportation in Libertyville, Illinois; a tabulation of said bids being as follows:

WHEREAS, the Public Works and Transportation Committee, the County Engineer and the Purchasing Agent have examined each bid, and it appears that the lowest responsible bidder is Alliance Contractors, Inc., Woodstock, Illinois, their bid being $618,683.50 based on estimated quantities and unit prices; and

 

WHEREAS, this Lake County Board, by prior resolution at its meeting of September 13, 2016, appropriated $1,220,000 of County Bridge Tax funds for the repair of six bridge abutments on the North Shore Bike Path over the Skokie River, the Canadian National Railroad and the Metra Railroad, and designated as Section 16-00999-25-BR.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by this Lake County Board, that a contract be awarded to said Alliance Contractors, Inc., Woodstock, Illinois, in accordance with their bid of $618,683.50, based on estimated quantities and unit prices, and that the Purchasing Agent, the County Clerk, and the County Engineer of Lake County be authorized and they are hereby directed to enter into a contract with said low bidder for the repair of six bridge abutments on the North Shore Bike Path over the Skokie River, the Canadian National Railroad and the Metra Railroad, and designated as Section 16-00999-25-BR.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in as much as such estimated quantities are the best approximation that can be determined at this time, these quantities may be added to, deducted from, or modified from in the final determination of the contract cost in accordance with Chapter 605 of the Illinois Compiled Statutes, Act 5, Section 5-205.2 without further Board action, providing the final cost chargeable to the funds appropriated does not exceed the appropriation.
