Staff Summary
·      Traffic Signal Equipment Upgrade 2012: Appropriation.
·      The County maintains 157 traffic signals, and various pieces of equipment, which annually need to be replaced and upgraded.
·      The 2012 work concentrates on installing UPS at seven to eleven intersections that have LED signal indications installed, but no UPS units.
·      UPS units only work at signals with low energy, using LED signal indications.
·      Before a project letting can be held, an appropriation of $290,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds is necessary.
·      Added alternative bidding will be used to determine the final number of intersections.

R E S O L U T I O N
 
WHEREAS, in order to reduce occurrences of "dark" traffic signal indications at various signalized intersections throughout the County highway system due to the temporary interruption of electric service, the Division of Transportation is undertaking a project to install Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS); and
 
WHEREAS, a survey of traffic control signals at various intersections throughout the County highway system for said UPS installation has been completed; and
 
WHEREAS, added alternative bidding will be used to determine the final number of intersections to install UPS in 2012, expected to be between 7 and 11intersections.
 
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by this Lake County Board, that there is hereby appropriated $290,000 of Motor Fuel Tax funds for the 2012 UPS installation and designated as Section 12-00000-10-GM.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this appropriation be processed by the County Engineer for final approval of the Illinois Department of Transportation in accordance with the "Agreement of Understanding" between the Illinois Department of Transportation and Lake County, dated January 22, 2003.
