Resolution setting the compensation for certain County-wide Elected Office holders.
Staff Summary
• Per State Statute, the County Board sets the compensation for elected officials no less than six months before those officials take office.
• At this time, it is necessary to set compensation for the following offices: County Clerk, Sheriff, Regional Superintendent of Schools and Treasurer for the years 2011 through 2014.
Body
WHEREAS, Illinois Law provides that the County Board shall fix the compensation of the County Clerk, Sheriff, Regional Superintendent of Schools and Treasurer, with the salary of the State’s Attorney to be established as prescribed by Statute by the Compensation Review Board of the State; and
WHEREAS, Illinois Law further provides that the County Board shall set the compensation for elected officials no less than six months before those officials take office; and
WHEREAS, it is now necessary to set the compensation for the County Clerk, Sheriff, Regional Superintendent of Schools and Treasurer for the years 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014; and
WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of your Financial and Administrative Committee that the compensation set forth below for the respective elected office holders be approved by this County Board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the annual salary for the County Clerk and Treasurer elected on November 2, 2010, shall be as follows for the years indicated:
For the Year 2011: $ 116,986 per annum
For the Year 2012: $ 116,986 per annum
For the Year 2013: $ 119,326 per annum
For the Year 2014: $ 121,712 per annum
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the annual salary for the Lake County Sheriff shall be as follows for the years indicated:
For the Year 2011: $ 149,100 per annum, (includes $ 4,500 for the Supervisor of Safety)
For the Year 2012: $ 149,100 per annum, (includes $ 4,500 for the Supervisor of Safety)
For the Year 2013: $ 151,992 per annum, (includes $ 4,500 for the Supervisor of Safety)
For the Year 2014: $ 154,942 per annum, (includes $ 4,500 for the Supervisor of Safety)
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that with respect to the Lake County Regional Superintendent of Schools:
1. A salary supplement for the Lake County Regional Superintendent of Schools is hereby approved for the years indicated so that the maximum total compensation of State and County funds shall be equal to:

August 2011 - July 2012 $ 116,986
August 2012 - July 2013 $ 116,986
August 2013 - July 2014 $ 119,326
August 2014 - July 2015 $ 121,712
Actual supplements shall be determined by subtracting the State of Illinois funding from the maximum compensation cited above. If the State of Illinois sets the Regional Superintendent of Schools’ salary at or above the maximum compensations cited above for any or all years, the County of Lake shall not provide a supplement.
2. If a supplement is to be paid, it will be paid in equal quarterly payments on the first County pay period of the months and years cited as follows, and shall be subject to all appropriate withholding requirements:
