Staff Summary

·      The current contract for linen and laundry services will expire on November 30, 2013.

·      The County contracts with a firm to provide facility linens and resident laundering for Winchester House, Women's Residential Services, Depke Juvenile Detention, and the Coroner's Office.

·      An Invitation to Bid for linen and laundry service was extended to 13 non local vendors.

·      Sealed bids were received from one vendor and Superior Health Linens was determined to be the lowest responsive and responsible bidder.

·      There was an eight percent reduction in the unit cost for the clean dry weight of linen which equates to an estimated $19,000 in savings.

·      This contract authorizes a two-year agreement for linen and laundry services with three additional one-year renewal options in an estimated annual amount of $287,500.

Body

WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 5-102 of the Lake County Purchasing Ordinance, bids were called for by publication for Linen and Laundry Service for Lake County; and

WHEREAS, subsequent to said publication, an Invitation to Bid was extended to thirteen vendors; and

WHEREAS, sealed bids were received from one vendor and opened at the Central Permit Facility, Libertyville, Illinois, on October 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.; and

WHEREAS, based on the criteria set forth in the Invitation to Bid; the staff determined that the bid submitted by Superior Health Linens is the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for Lake County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County,

Illinois, that the Purchasing Agent is hereby authorized to enter into a contract with Superior Health Linens, for Lake County for two year agreement with three additional one-year renewals in the estimated annual amount of $287,500, charged to various accounts.
