Body
The Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center is grateful for the partnership among the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, United Way of Lake County, Waukegan Community School District 60 and Stephanie Victor, FCL.  Each of these partners supports the goal of the Kids 1st Health Fair through their generous contributions of resources including financial contributions, staff, and community networking. This one-stop, back-to-school fair for low-income children assures that attendees will not be asked to miss school due to lack of required physical and dental exams and immunizations. Since 1993, Kids 1st partners have helped 25,000 children get ready for school.

Mr. Walter Ulbricht, Executive Director of Marketing and Communications and Martha Kelly Bates, Director of Alumni Affairs at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science through their contacts with Lutheran General Hospital have provided the needed physicians so that over 4,000 children in the last five years could receive school physicals.  Additionally, each year almost 200 Rosalind Franklin University students volunteer to work at a variety of jobs, including staffing booths for physical therapy, behavioral assessment and nutrition.

Stephanie Victor has been a Kids 1st booster for the last five years, donating printing for 30,000 flyers each year through her company, FCL, that go to Lake County schools to advertise the fair.  She has been in charge of fundraising for school supplies as well as distributing them.  As a result, 7,000 children in the last five years have started school with fresh, new supplies. Additionally, due to Stephanie's spearheading, this year's Kids 1st intake procedures included an asthma assessment which helps parents identify and get medical care for children with breathing problems.

United Way of Lake County joined the Kids 1st Health Fair in a big way this year.  First, due to networking with United Way, Fair organizers were able to obtain all of the needed school supplies at no charge.  United Way's contacts with medical companies yielded a large donation of medical supplies which kept costs very low. Finally, United Way recruited a corporation to take over the volunteer refreshment room.  United Way's total assistance has saved the Fair about $25, 000 this year.

Dr. Donaldo R. Batiste, Ph.D, Superintendant of Waukegan Community School District 60, has donated the facilities and staff at Miguel Juarez Junior High to the Kids 1st Health Fair.  We could not have conducted this fair if it were not for the support Kids 1st receives from the Waukegan Community School District 60.
