Staff Summary

•                     After reviewing voting sites for the March 20, 2018 General Primary Election, voting site changes are proposed to provide better voting site locations to those precincts affected due to sites that have requested to discontinue serving as a polling place due to parking and voting room limitations; a site that is being demolished; and sites that are deemed physically inadequate.

•                     Each of these precincts will be reassigned to an appropriate voting site which has sufficient parking and voting space as well as full accessibility for all voters.

ORDINANCE

WHEREAS, Lake County has 415 voting precincts in 18 townships; and

 

WHEREAS, for Avon Township precincts 36, 48, and 49, Torch of Faith has requested to discontinue offering its location as a polling place; and

 

WHEREAS, for Libertyville Township precincts 178, 179, 182, and 184, St. John Lutheran Church no longer can guarantee accessibility to voters due to repeated malfunction of their elevator lift; and

 

WHEREAS, for Shields Township precincts 238 and 241, Union Church of Lake Bluff no longer can guarantee accessibility to voters due to repeated malfunction of their elevator lift, and would like to discontinue offering its location as a polling place; and

 

WHEREAS, for Vernon Township precincts 254, 256, 258, 259, due to the forthcoming demolition of the Larry Laschen Community Center, the Lake County Clerk’s Office must discontinue offering this location as a polling place; and

 

WHEREAS, for Vernon Township precincts 251, 264, 268, Daniel Wright Jr. High allocated an unsatisfactory space and has requested to discontinue offering its location as a polling place; and

 

WHEREAS, for Vernon Township precincts 269 and 270, Laura Sprague School has had a history of unpredictable site alterations and has requested to discontinue offering its location as a polling place; and

 

WHEREAS, for Waukegan Township precincts 374 and 375, Jesus Name Apostolic Church, due to construction and remodeling, no longer provides ample space and accessibility to voters; thus, the County Clerk’s Office seeks to discontinue offering this location as a polling place; and

 

WHEREAS, each said precinct is being relocated to a voting site which has sufficient parking and voting space as well as full accessibility for all voters; and

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, the attached “Exhibits A and B” sets forth the voting sites assigned to each of the affected precincts, which are identified by name and location.
