Resolution recommending the appointment of Artis Yancey as Lake County Coroner.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Coroner's Office is a countywide elected office responsible for investigating the manner and cause of deaths occurring within Lake County; and

 

WHEREAS, there now exists a vacancy with the position of County Coroner; and

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to Illinois law (10 ILCS 5/25-11) the County Board Chairman shall appoint someone to fill the vacancy within 60 days with the advice and consent of the County Board; and

 

WHEREAS, the appointee must be of the same political party of the vacating official, in this case, a Democrat; and

 

WHEREAS, the Chairman recommended and the County Board approved the establishment of a Lake County Coroner Selection Committee to identify qualified candidates to fill the vacancy; and

 

WHEREAS, after an exhaustive vetting process on each candidate, the Lake County Coroner Selection Committee identified Artis Yancey as a qualified candidate.

 

WHEREAS, provided herewith is Mr. Artis Yancey’s resume; Artis Yancey, 2936 West Bonnie Brook Lane, Waukegan, Illinois, 60087. Experience: (2009-2010) Chief of Police, Waukegan Police Department; (2001-2009) Deputy Chief of Patrol and Operations; (1997-2001) Management/Supervisor-Patrol Sergeant, Community Policing Sergeant and Juvenile Investigations Unit Sergeant; (1991-1997) Detective; and (1988-1991) Patrol Officer. Education: (2005) Lewis University, Romeoville, Illinois: Master of Science in Criminal/Social Justice; and (2000) Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, Illinois: Bachelor of Arts in General Studies. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that Artis Yancey is hereby appointed as Lake County Coroner
