Staff Summary

•                     Stearns School Road at US Route 41, Traffic Signal Improvement: Appropriation and Agreement

•                     The State of Illinois proposes to utilize Federal Highway funds to improve the existing traffic control signals at Stearns School Road and US Rte. 41. 

•                     The county’s portion of this improvement is for the local share of the county’s portion of the intersection.

•                     This resolution authorizes the execution of an agreement with the State of Illinois for this improvement and appropriates $15,000 of Matching Tax funds.

Body

                     WHEREAS, Stearns School Road (County Highway 74) is a designated route on the county highway system; and

                     WHEREAS, the State of Illinois proposes to improve the intersection of US Rte. 41 and Stearns School road by modernization of the existing traffic control signals; and

                     WHEREAS, the State of Illinois will utilize Federal Highway funding for 90% of this improvement; and

                     WHEREAS, the county portion of said improvement is for the local share of its leg of the intersection; and

                     WHEREAS, the State of Illinois and Lake County are desirous on entering into an agreement for said improvement; a draft copy of which is attached hereto.

                     NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by this County Board of Lake County that the Chair of the County Board, the County Clerk, and the County Engineer of Lake County are authorized and they are directed to execute on behalf of Lake County an agreement for the improvement to the traffic control signals at the intersection of Stearns School Road and US Route 41.  The County Engineer shall transmit, in writing, the final agreement to be executed by the Chair of the County Board and the County Clerk and grant plan and specification approval to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

                     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there is hereby appropriated $15,000 of Matching Tax funds for this improvement designated as Section 09-00222-01-TL.

                     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this agreement, when executed in its final form, be submitted to the Illinois Department of Transportation for their approval and final processing.
