SPECIAL RECOGNITION

 

 

WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels was elected in 2014 to serve as the District 10 representative on the Lake County Board and the Lake County Forest Preserves District Board; and

 

WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels earned his Master’s of Education degree in Global Human Resources Development from the University of Illinois, and his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physics from John Carroll University; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout his service on the Lake County Board, Chuck Bartels was committed to enhancing economic development, fiscal responsibility, maintaining AAA bond rating, multi-modal transportation infrastructure and preserving natural resources and sustainability for the residents in Lake County; and

 

WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels served as chair of the Ethics Committee, vice-chair of the Financial and Administrative Services Committee, and member of the Planning, Building, and Zoning Committee, Law and Judicial Committee, and Ad-Hoc Diversity and Inclusion Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, as the vice-chair of the Financial and Administrative Services Committee, Chuck Bartels made significant contributions to Lake County’s finances by maintaining a balanced budget, minimal debt, and AAA bond rating; and

 

WHEREAS, as a member of the Planning, Building, and Zoning Committee, Chuck Bartels supported innovative shared services opportunities with local area governments and worked to improve customer service by streamlining development review and the utilization of technology improvements in the County’s permitting operations; and

 

WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels coordinated with Planning, Building and Development and township officials in his district to effectuate stormwater management solutions to local drainage problems; and

 

WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels served on the Lake County Forest Preserves District Board as the chair of the Ethics Committee and member of the Operations Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels served on the Lake County Partners Board of Governors,

working to retain and attract good jobs in Lake County, and to maintain Lake County’s competitive advantage in the new economy by strengthening Lake County’s “Workforce Ecosystem;” and


WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels has held membership in multiple bipartisan public service organizations, including the Lake County Transportation Alliance, College of Lake County Foundation, Lake County Strategic Consensus Project, Save Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Lake County Project Self Sufficiency, United Way of Lake County, Alverno College​, and Zacharias Center; and

 

WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels has served on several business and professional community associations including the Regional Board of Catholic Charities, Lake County Education to Careers and Labor Availability, the University Center of Lake County Site Search Committee, and the Provena/St. Therese Hospital Medical Center; and

 

WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels has local, regional and global business experience and recently retired as head of Global Social Responsibility for ManpowerGroup, a Fortune 150 company; and

 

WHEREAS, early in his career, Chuck Bartels served as a physics and chemistry teacher and wrestling coach; and

 

WHEREAS, Chuck Bartels has been a resident of Lake County for more than 40 years. He is married to Teresa Hall Bartels and they share five sons and nine grandchildren.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RECOGNIZED, that the Lake County Board offers its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Chuck Bartels for his years of dedicated public service to his district and to the residents of Lake County; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that the County Board does hereby extend its best wishes to Chuck Bartels on all his future endeavors.
