Joint resolution authorizing the acceptance and execution of a Greater Illinois - Reimagine Public Safety Act (GI-RPSA) Violence Prevention Council Coordinator (VPCC) grant awarded to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office through the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) Violence Prevention Services (VPS) to create a VPCC in Lake County aimed at helping build local capacity to reduce firearm violence by encouraging effective, collaborative working relationships across providers in violence prevention, community organizing, asset mapping, resource allocation and capacity building, including grant funding and an emergency appropriation of $100,000.

 

Staff Summary

                     The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has been awarded $100,000 in grant funds by the DHS, VPS.

                     The grant term is July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

                     The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office will use the funds to assist in the implementation of its Gun Violence Prevention Initiative (GVPI) by hiring a Violence Prevention Council Coordinator (VPCC) Program Coordinator to serve as the lead convener for each identified area.

                     Grant program funding in the amount of $100,000 will cover 100% of the salary and benefits of the VPCC Program Coordinator and fund the purchase of a laptop and accessories.

                     If funding for this position ends, and new funding is not secured, the position will be eliminated.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has been awarded a SFY 2024 Grant from the Illinois DHS VPS, for the time period of July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024, in the amount of $100,000.00; and

 

WHEREAS, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office will use this funding to further implement its Gun Violence Prevention Initiative through the hiring and supplying of a VPCC Program Coordinator; and

 

WHEREAS, the Greater Illinois - Reimagine Public Safety Act (GI-RPSA) Violence Prevention Council Coordinator (VPCC) grant is in the amount of $100,000 and it is necessary to appropriate this amount; and

 

WHEREAS, the State’s Attorney’s Office recommends that the Chairman of the County Board, the State’s Attorney and the Treasurer be authorized to execute the necessary documents to accept and execute the grant.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the GI-RPSA VPCC grant awarded to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office by the Illinois DHS VPS is hereby accepted; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that $100,000 is hereby authorized for the SFY24 GI-RPSA VPCC grant program in expenditure account 101-TBD-51110, 61020, 71150 and revenue account 101-TBD-45333; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the State’s Attorney shall serve as the project director for the program, and accurate records of all necessary grant compliance requirements shall be kept by the State’s Attorney’s Office.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Board, the Lake County State’s Attorney, and the Lake County Treasurer are hereby authorized to execute the necessary documentation in order to accept the grant renewal.
