Staff Summary

                     The United States Department of Energy announced the availability of funding of approximately $2.8 billion for direct allocations for the EECBG program as part of the ARRA.

                     Lake County is eligible to receive a direct allocation of $5,658.700.

                     Eligible activities under the EECBG program align with the goals of the “Strategy for a Sustainable Lake County”.

                     Lake County has identified three program areas to which the grant funds will be directed which included: Energy Retrofits in County owned facilities, developing Green Building Code Standards to promote energy efficiency, and the County Fleet Routing Efficiency Program.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The United States Department of Energy announced the availability of funding of approximately $2.8 billion for direct allocations for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG) as part of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA); and

 

WHEREAS, Lake County is eligible to receive a direct allocation under the EECBG program of $5,658,700 to develop and support energy efficiency programs that will reduce energy use, reduce fossil fuel emissions and improve energy efficiency in building, transportation and other appropriate sectors: and

 

WHEREAS, the eligible activities under the EECBG program align with the goals of the “Strategy for a Sustainable Lake County” adopted in April 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, Lake County has identified three programs areas to which the grant funds will be directed to advance the goals and principles of the EECBG program and the “Strategy for a Sustainable Lake County” guide which are as follows; Energy Retrofits in county owned facilities, developing Green Building Code Standards to promote energy efficiency, and the County Fleet Routing Efficiency Program; and

 

WHEREAS, Lake County further intends to direct an appropriate sum of grant funding to offset administrative costs related to administering the EECBG program as allowed under the funding guidelines.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the Chair of the County Board and such designees necessary are hereby authorized to execute the necessary documentation, application forms, assurances, representations and supporting documents to complete the application process for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program as announced by the United States Department of Energy.
