Special recognition honoring our Military Veterans and recognizing Operation Green Light.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, the United States honors the service and sacrifice of military Veterans every November 11 on Veterans Day; and
WHEREAS, Veterans demonstrate service, courage, sacrifice, and resilience while continuing to make valuable contributions to our communities; and
WHEREAS, Operation Green Light for Veterans is a nationwide initiative that honors Veterans and shows support for those transitioning from military to civilian life by encouraging communities, businesses, and residents to display green lights; and
WHEREAS, approximately 200,000 service members transition from military to civilian life each year, and many continue to serve their communities through Veterans service organizations, religious organizations, civil service, and Veterans service offices, helping fellow Veterans access health care, disability, compensation, and other benefits; and
WHEREAS, as home to an estimated 100,000 active-duty, reserve, and retired service members and their families, Lake County plays a unique role in our nation's defense through Naval Station Great Lakes, the Fort Sheridan Reserve Center, and the Lovell Federal Health Care Center; and
WHEREAS, the Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County plays a vital role in supporting Veterans and their families by providing advocacy, financial assistance, burial assistance, and other services at no cost, and can be reached at 847-377-3344; and
WHEREAS, the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court works to preserve the personal stories and experiences of Veterans for future generations through the Veterans History Project, which invites Veterans to share their stories and experiences.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, that Lake County is a Green Light for Veterans County, joining communities across the nation in recognizing Veterans and supporting their transition from military to civilian life; and
BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, we honor the service and sacrifice of every Veteran and their families on November 11 for Veterans Day; and
BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that in observance of Veterans Day and Operation Green Light for Veterans, the Lake County Board encourages residents, businesses, and organizations to mark the contributions and sacrifices of Veterans by displaying a green light in a window of their home or business as a symbol of support during times of peace, crisis, and war.
