Title
Proposed Revisions to Lake County Code Chapter 171, Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS) - Adam
Body
Revisions are proposed to multiple sections of the ordinance that apply to issuing permits where a public sewer system is unavailable.
Other proposed revisions are:
• Clarity: language was changed to provide better clarity and consistency throughout
• Design and Installation: most of the substantive changes impact septic design and installation such as adding the provisions of the NSF/ANSI Standard Number 350, requiring a soil test to be re-certified if older than 5 years, short-circuiting prevention, undersized system disclosure, vegetation requirements after installation, protective fencing/vehicle traffic
• Removal of redundant or outdated parts of the code: an example would be removal of the drip distribution systems as a treatment option
These proposed revisions to Chapter 171 were reviewed and approved by the Environmental Health Advisory Committee at their August 17, 2026 meeting. A public hearing was held on September 9, 2026 to receive comments on the proposed changes. Comments were received and added to the record and are attached.
Suggested Motion
To approve the revisions to Lake County Code Chapter 171.
