Title
Illinois Department of Human Services – Better Birth Outcomes, $1,920,000 – Grant Approval – Kritz
Body
Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center received $1,920,000 in funding through the Illinois Department of Human Services, Better Birth Outcomes program for the period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. Beginning in State Fiscal Year 2026, the program was restructured and renamed from Family Case Management High Risk Infant Follow-up to Better Birth Outcomes. The Better Birth Outcomes grant award was higher than what was budgeted for the Family Case Management High Risk Infant Follow-up grant in LCFY25. Also, after the LCFY26 Better Birth Outcomes budget was finalized, the Illinois Department of Human Services increased the award to a greater amount than was budgeted for LCFY26. The emergency appropriation amount for LCFY25 is $413,800 and some of these funds will be carried over to LCFY26. The purpose of the funding is to provide nursing assessments and navigation services that connect pregnant and parenting individuals to needed resources and assess the health and needs of infants up to six months, aiming to reduce maternal and infant health risks and strengthen family wellness. This will fund medical supplies, contractual services, training and offset existing staff salary and fringe benefits.
Suggested Motion
To approve the Illinois Department of Human Services, Better Birth Outcomes grant funding of $1,920,000 and emergency appropriate $413,800 for FY25.
