Ratification of Proposed New and Revised Health Department Employee Policies - Hagstrom

As of January 1, 2024, the Paid Leave for All Workers Act went into effect regarding the granting of paid time-off to staff. The Lake County Board approved their policy at the December 12, 2023, County Board meeting. Health Department Human Resources staff have been preparing for this change and with that approval could then reconcile the language and revise the Health Department’s proposed policy to be consistent. In addition to policy language, we will be coordinating with Lake County Human Resources on logistics to administer the requirements.
The timing of these approvals in December did not allow for us to move the relevant policies through the usual review and approval process and still meet the January 1, 2024, effective date.
The relevant LCHD/CHC polices are:
1) Paid Leave for Employees
2) Vacation Leave
The necessary changes were made to maintain consistency with the Lake County Vacation and Paid Leave Time Policy. Consistent with the LCHD/CHC policy Establishing New and Revised Policy, the policies were submitted to the Executive Committee on December 15, 2023, for provisional approval prior to January 1, 2024. We now seek ratification and approval of the new and revised policies by the full Board of Health.
