Special recognition of May 5 through May 11, 2024 as National Correctional Officers Week.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, correctional officers and correctional personnel are honored nationwide for National Correctional Officers Week from May 5 through May 11, 2024; and
WHEREAS, correctional officers are responsible for the supervision of individuals arrested, convicted, and/or sentenced for criminal offenses. Their supervision takes place in the Lake County Adult Correctional Facility, including the Community-Based Correctional Center offering Periodic Imprisonment and Electronic Home Monitoring; and
WHEREAS, correctional personnel prepare individuals for reintegration into the community, which is critical in protecting public safety. The Lake County Adult Correctional Facility partners with outside agencies such as the Lake County Health Department, and non-profit, educational, and faith-based organizations to provide inmate programming and mentoring services to ensure successful re-entry into the community; and
WHEREAS, a career in corrections is challenging. Corrections personnel must maintain a constant state of heightened vigilance, adhere to strict security protocols, and perform their duties with the threat of exposure to violent events; and
WHEREAS, their dedication and courage was especially highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic, as specific protocols and mitigation strategies were implemented to protect the health and safety of those in custody as well as corrections personnel.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois that Lake County proclaims May 5 through May 11, 2024, as National Correctional Officers Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that this Lake County Board does hereby thank the 161 dedicated professionals in the Lake County Sheriff's Adult Correctional Facility and Community-Based Correctional Center for their professionalism, dedication, and courage.
